🇫🇷 France - 🇺🇦 Ukraine • France is now Ukraine's main supplier of military intelligence

France now provides two-thirds of the military intelligence used by Ukraine, according to statements by Emmanuel Macron. This development marks a major shift in the architecture of Western support for Kyiv, following Washington's decision in 2025 to suspend intelligence sharing. Paris now plays a central role in an area long dominated by the United States, at the heart of Ukrainian military operations.

The French president said that this rise in power had taken place within a year. Whereas Ukraine previously depended overwhelmingly on American capabilities, the majority of intelligence flows now come from France. The information provided is largely technical in nature, according to an official from the Ministry of the Armed Forces, with no further details on its exact nature.

The American decision to suspend intelligence sharing came in March 2025. It was part of a strategy to put political pressure on President Volodymyr Zelenskiy to encourage him to cooperate with a peace initiative led by Donald Trump. At that time, Washington provided most of the intelligence capabilities available to Kiev, particularly in the areas of satellite and early warning systems.

Since then, relations between Washington and Kiev have fluctuated, with no clear indication of a full resumption of US support in this area. Emmanuel Macron nevertheless stated that Europe had gradually taken over several aspects of military support, including intelligence, arms deliveries and financing.

According to the French head of state, a coalition of around 35 countries now provides all of the aid to Ukraine. This coalition covers both financial and material aspects, following the American decision to no longer directly finance or supply weapons to Kyiv. France appears to be one of the pillars of this expanded system, particularly in terms of information.

The Ukrainian military intelligence agency declined to comment on the French president's remarks. Reuters
