🇫🇷 France • Drones flying and jamming signals above a nuclear base

Yesterday evening, five small drones were detected at around 7:30 p.m. above the submarine base on Île Longue, in the Brest harbor (Brittany), triggering an anti-drone system and several jamming shots by the marine battalion responsible for protecting the site. The devices, described as unarmed and "outside the military context," did not threaten sensitive infrastructure, but authorities believe their operators were seeking to cause public concern.

French Minister of the Armed Forces Catherine Vautrin announced this morning that an investigation had been launched to clarify the circumstances surrounding these flights, while the Rennes public prosecutor's office stated that it had not established "any link with foreign interference" at this stage. No drones were shot down and no pilots have yet been identified, leaving the question of the origin and precise intentions of these illegal flights unanswered.

The spokesperson for the Atlantic Maritime Prefect, Commander Guillaume Le Rasle, emphasized that the base's security system "worked perfectly" and insisted that the drones were small, unarmed civilian models. Visibility conditions, which were particularly favorable due to a full moon close to the Earth, facilitated the detection of the aircraft but also reinforce the hypothesis of a deliberately demonstrative action.

The Île Longue base, the sanctuary of French nuclear deterrence, houses and maintains four nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarines, at least one of which is permanently at sea, and is permanently protected by 120 maritime police officers in coordination with marines. Drone flights are prohibited and remain rare, although a previous incident was reported in mid-November over the Crozon peninsula, which has no direct influence on the military zone, and this has now heightened vigilance around this strategic site. IN SHORT
🇸🇩 Sudan • New satellite images show the city of El-Fasher emptied of its population, with cremation and burial pits visible after the city was taken by the Rapid Support Forces. Up to 150,000 residents remain unaccounted for, and analysts are reporting a massacre of at least 60,000 people. The once-bustling markets are now deserted, and the city remains inaccessible to humanitarian aid workers as famine takes hold.

🇺🇸 United States • The Pentagon announced a new strike against a boat suspected of transporting drugs in the Eastern Pacific, killing four men. The operation, claimed by the Southern Command, is part of a campaign that has caused at least 87 deaths since September. The legality of these strikes is hotly contested in Congress and by several international law experts, who denounce them as arbitrary executions.

🇺🇸 United States - 🇪🇺 Europe • The Trump administration has published its new national defense strategy, claiming that Europe risks "civilizational obliteration" within 20 years if current trends continue. The document announces a refocusing of U.S. military efforts on the Western Hemisphere, increased pressure on Asian allies to support Taiwan against China, and the proclaimed end of the "era of mass migration." The text is highly offensive toward Europe and states in black and white that the United States' strategic priority is to promote populist movements in Europe in order to weaken the European Union.

🇺🇸 United States - 🇺🇦 Ukraine • Washington has urged several European capitals to oppose the EU's plan to use frozen Russian assets to guarantee a €90 billion loan to Ukraine, arguing that these funds should be used to seal a future peace agreement. Berlin strongly supports the idea that the money should go to Kiev, while Brussels is struggling to overcome Belgian reluctance, which fears legal risks and Russian reprisals.

🇨🇩 DRC - 🇷🇼 Rwanda • Despite the signing yesterday in Washington of a peace agreement described as historic, the security situation remains unstable in eastern Congo, where new clashes have been reported in South Kivu. The process is based on three components (peace, economic integration, bilateral partnerships), but no sanctions are provided for in the event of non-compliance. Several conditional steps, including the neutralization of the FDLR and the withdrawal of Rwandan forces, are delaying concrete implementation, leaving considerable uncertainty about the actual timetable for implementation.

🇮🇪 Ireland - 🇺🇦 Ukraine • Irish police are investigating the presence of several military drones spotted on Monday evening in the no-fly zone around Dublin Airport, at the time of Volodymyr Zelensky's arrival. The incident, reported by The Journal, has led the government to convene the National Security Council in the near future. The authorities have not yet mentioned any leads. Ireland is sorely lacking in air defenses.

🇩🇪 Germany • The Bundestag has approved the reinstatement of voluntary military service, 14 years after the end of conscription. Starting in January 2026, young people born in 2008 will receive a questionnaire from the Bundeswehr, a prelude to a national census of people eligible for military service. The scheme, supported by conservatives but contested by some young people, provides for six months of service paid at €2,600 per month and could evolve into a more restrictive model depending on the country's strategic needs.

🇪🇺 European Union - 🇺🇸 United States • Brussels has fined X €120 million for misleading its users by reserving blue ticks for paying subscribers and for a lack of advertising transparency. Washington has denounced this as an attack on American companies, with JD Vance and Marco Rubio accusing the EU of targeting freedom of expression. The Commission insists that the sanction is strictly in line with the DSA (Digital Services Act).

🇫🇷 France - 🇨🇳 China • Emmanuel Macron has concluded a three-day state visit to China marked by a warm welcome but limited results. Beijing offered no progress on Ukraine and did not approve any major economic agreements, notably on Airbus aircraft. Twelve sectoral agreements were signed, while Paris continues to call for a rebalancing of trade and a more united European position vis-à-vis Beijing.

🇨🇳 China • Chinese exports to Africa are growing at an unprecedented rate in 2025, up 25.9% over the first eight months, with $122 billion already sold. Machinery, electrical equipment, automobiles, and materials dominate, driven by strong demand for infrastructure and energy transition. Beijing is strengthening its influence through customs exemptions, increased openness to African agriculture, and the facilitation of the yuan, while trade imbalances and dependence on Chinese imports are fueling structural vulnerabilities for several African economies.
