🇮🇱 Israel - 🇶🇦 Qatar • Strike against Hamas leaders in Doha

Israel carried out a strike targeting senior Hamas political leaders based in Doha. The operation hit a residential building identified as the headquarters of the Palestinian movement's leadership. Qatar, which is engaged in ceasefire talks, condemned the attack and denounced it as a serious violation of its sovereignty.

According to the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the targeted site was home to several Hamas political leaders. No official toll has been released, but the strike marks an escalation of the conflict outside the Gaza Strip. It illustrates Israel's determination to strike at the heart of the movement's political leadership, even abroad.

For several months, Doha has played a central role in negotiations between Israel, Hamas, and international mediators, notably in coordination with Egypt and the United States. This attack could weaken its position by damaging its image as a neutral mediator. Qatar had already welcomed a number of Hamas officials in exile, tolerating their presence while maintaining dialogue with Washington and Tel Aviv.

This strike comes at a time when talks on a ceasefire seemed to be stalling. For Israel, striking Hamas leadership outside Gaza is part of a strategy of maximum pressure. For Doha, it is a strategic dilemma: continue its role as mediator or denounce Israeli operations more strongly.

By targeting Doha, Israel is attacking not only Hamas, but also the emirate as a key diplomatic player. The New York Times
